This was written many years ago. . . from a farmer’s wife
To My Valentine
You are rugged and strong as the denim you wear,
but we have seen you brush away a tear
at an unexpected gesture of love
...
or a prayer.
Your keen eyes keep a close watch on livestock,
machinery and crops,
but we have discovered you enjoying a sunset.
During busy seasons your time is precious,
but we have seen you drop everything to help
a neighbor in need
The dozens of chore gloves you wear out each year
are proof of the tough manual labor you do,
but your gentle handclasp sends us a message
of love.
After months of hard labor, and the harvest is in,
our hearts well up within us as we hear you
give God the credit.
You growers of food,
Suppliers of vittles for the world,
We are glad you asked us to walk hand in hand with
you in your rural domain;
we are proud to be your wives.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
A farmer’s wife
