My Heart is cornucopia
spilling over with blessings.
the mouth-watering pear-like blessings of
family and friends:
a granddaughter’s hugs,
tried and true friendships,
comforts of a home filled with love . . .
little blessings that come in grape-like
clusters throughout each day:
bird songs,
a geranium in bloom,
a letter,
a friendly chat,
precious minutes at the Master’s feet . . .
the everyday apple-like kind of blessings –
firm, a little tart, but so good for you:
work – its challenges and satisfactions,
beef stew and daily bread,
mothering,
sleep,
forgiveness,
smiles and encouragement . . .
bright ones – the prized plums of dreams
come true:
return to health,
answered prayers,
another wedding anniversary,
bitter-flavored blessings –
and the sweet,
those easy to come by
and the hard-shelled ones . . .
like nuts, these appeared to be
disappointments, but within each was
buried a blessing:
How can I list them all?
As yet many go unrecognized.
My life is a horn of plenty
Filled from God’s hand
Proof of his all-sufficiency
And containing resources
For future thanksgiving and praise.
